Eating Tips
• Bring along snacks for the journey. Snacking keeps kids busy in transit. Start with healthy snacks but pack a couple of "forbidden" treats to pull out as a sanity saver if you need it.
• Purchase fresh fruits and veggies from an outdoor market or grocer after arrival.
• For restaurant meals, pack an "entertainment kit" of crayons or washable markers, coloring or activity book (themed to the locale if possible!), a couple books and a toy or two.
•If the kids are antsy (and whose kids aren't?), inform your server you'd like your meals as quickly as possible, even if it means your main dish will be served before you've finished your salad.
• Spoons provide a great diversion for babies. Ask your server to provide you with a few!
• Providing a steady stream of snacks to toddlers buys a lot of time while dining out.
• Avoid fancy meals with young children for sanity’s sake (or cheat and bring along a travel DVD player or iPhone stocked with kid videos and games).
• You probably will not eat as healthfully on the go as you do at home. Pack grown-up and children's vitamins to make sure everyone gets the nutrients they need.
• Another great healthful option for kids and adults is Extreme Berries To Go! These little packets of berry-flavored powder can be mixed with water for a low-cal sweet drink that has the antioxidant power of four servings of fruits and vegetables.
• Purchase a plastic, sectioned container from Sassy or Avent for a convenient way to store the premeasured amount of powdered formula you need for baby bottles on the go.
• Book a room with a kitchen, or at least a refrigerator, for in-room meals that save on time, stress and money. Quick breakfasts of cereal, yogurt and fruit make an easy and affordable option.
