Bring the Kids Along on a Business Trip

Everyone’s looking for ways to save money during these tough economic times. If you or your spouse has a job that requires travel, why not have the family tagalong on the next business trip? You save money on airfare for one family member and score free accommodations for all.
Even President Obama has brought his family along on business trips! The kids and I have joined my husband on a business trip or two, like when we all drove to Las Vegas to make a long weekend out of his one-day trip. I guess it will depend on the type of business you will be conducting.
I did bring my family along on my first blogging conference because I knew my husband could take care of them. The conference also provided child care service.

I think it’s ok as long as you have your spouse to stay with the kids where ever your staying.
If it’s an extremely important trip where you will be in a lot of meetings, doing alot of paperwork in your hotel and won’t have any time for family, then it’d be best to leave them home.
I’d definately tag along with my husband as long as I knew we would not interupt anything he was needing to get done and that we would have time to spend together as a family somewhere during the trip.
I’m in favor of combining business and travel with the family, although the family can prove to be a distraction. Question to ask: should the employee tell one’s company that the family will be coming along or not. Another question: is there a company policy regarding spouse or family coming along.
Good points, Crystal & Ellen! I am all in favor of bringing kids along on a business trip if someone can watch the kiddos! I definitely think you should ask your employer before bringing the family along though! I don’t think most employers would mind, but honesty is always the best policy!
