Nickelodeon Suites Resort – A Family Hotel with Amusements Galore (Part 1)
By: Colleen Lanin, The Travel MamaFebruary 21st, 2010
With onsite activities like an elaborate water park, miniature golf, and live audience-participation shows, the Nickelodeon Suites Resort in Orlando, Florida is a destination unto itself or an affordable hotel option for families who want to take free shuttles to nearby Disney World theme parks and other attractions. I recently spent four nights at the Nick Hotel with my daughter (Karissa, almost five), son (Leo, almost two), and mom (Grandma Ellen, 65). Read on to learn how you can win a two-night stay and other Nick-style fun for a family of four at the Nickelodeon Suites Resort!

All of the rooms at the Nick Hotel are suites. (As a light-sleeper, all I can say is, Halleluiah!) We stayed in a two-bedroom KidSuite, with bunk beds in a character-themed room, a king-size bed in the master, and a pull-out queen sofa bed in the living area. There was also a kitchen area equipped with a small fridge, sink, microwave, and coffee maker – making simple breakfasts and snacks a snap. A suite allows for better sleep, and therefore less cranky pants and a happier vacation for all!
After a long day of air travel (with a screaming toddler) from San Diego, we wanted to take it easy our first full day at the Nickelodeon Suites Resort. However, the overcast weather did not cooperate with our plans to explore the on-site Lagoon Water Park and Pool. I worried there wouldn’t be enough to keep us occupied, but there was plenty for us to do!

First we played a couple rounds of free miniature golf. Even my little guy got in on the action!
After lunch and naps, we headed to The Mall. From restaurants to entertainment and shopping, you can find all sorts of indoor fun here.

First, we checked out Nickelodeon’s 4-D Theatre. We sported 3-D glasses to experience stuff “jumping” out at us from the movie screen. The fourth “D” came in the form of misted water, scents (think flowers), and rumbling seats. You can pay per flick, or for a little more, get a wristband for unlimited viewing throughout your stay. My daughter was scared by the first movie, Deep Sea, about ocean creatures but she stuck it out nonetheless. Her brother, on the other hand, started crying less than one minute into the film so I had to whisk him away. I took Karissa back in for a viewing of Nick Jr’s The Wonder Pets: Save the Sheep! This show did not require the glasses and was more her speed.

Next stop? The Kid’s Spa. Karissa chose sparkly blue from a rainbow of colors for her finger nails. She’s quite the girly girl and loved the attention from her sweet nail technician. The spa also offered temporary tattoos (for both boys and girls), hair braiding, and pedicures.

Minding the pretty nails, we headed for The Arcade, where there were games for little ones (virtual bowling and mini basketball) to teens (ski ball, Guitar Hero, and air hockey). The kids earned points while playing, and redeemed them for little trinkets and toys.
Before dinner, we attended Nick Live Goes Wild, a high-energy audience-participation game show at Studio Nick. The losing team’s dad got a cream pie in the face, while the winning team’s tween son got doused with slime (which, apparently, was a really cool thing for a boy that age)! Late night shows included Family Improv, Who Knows Best?, and Karaoke.
Nick After Dark was also located in The Mall for children ages five through twelve. Alas, my children were too young to participate but backstage passes to the Nick Studio and hands-on slime-making would be enough to keep most kids happy for an evening while mom and dad slip out for some grown-up fun.
There was so much to do- I couldn’t squeeze all of the information about the Nick Hotel into one story! Check back next week to read about character dining and the resort’s fabulous water park in Nickelodeon Suites Resort – Part 2.

We would love to have the slim of our life by taking our two kids and enjoying a family getaway. My husband and I will have just as much fun as the kids.
I would love to take my kids to nick hotel
I would like to have the “slime” of my life at the Nickelodeon Suites Resort because my grandchildren are coming soon.

Hi, here’s my tweet!! http://twitter.com/FrancescaMaz/status/9500695204
I grew up going to the Disney area once a year. Now that I have a child of my own, I want to re-start that tradition with her. Thanks!
We were supposed to go to Disney for a conference two weeks ago, but the night before our plane left, my baby sparked a 104 temperature. So not only was I up at 4am with a rectal thermometer, but I was stuck at home with two sick kids under 4 by myself for a week while my husband went without us to speak at his conference.
I am a sad panda.
I would love to win so my son can celebrate his 6th birthday with his cousins, who live in Orlando and Jacksonville. It would be great for all the kiddos to be able to play and stay at the resort and help my son celebrate his birthday this summer. And I would love to be able to reconnect with my sister and her family– after many years of living so far apart, it would be our first time our families would vacation together!
My kids would love to stay at the Nick hotel and have a great time. It looks great for their ages!
I’d love to visit the Nick Hotel. Have always been a fan of the network and used to love going to Nick Studios in Orlando. Was not happy at all getting down there to find out it had closed. (and I’ve never been slimed.. that’s a life goal right there, to get Nickelodeon slimed!)

my sons are 5 & 6. they have been talking about nickelodeon suites for a year. the oldest loves sponge bob and the youngest loves dora. i think they would have the time of their life. as far as geting slimed, they are boys and like anything messy like that.
Nick is a refreshing change from the hectic world of Disney and something different to experience in Orlando.
I am dying to go to the Nick Hotel and show my kids the Slime of their lives. We live in cold and snowy Rochester, NY and I am SO in need of sunshine. I was THIS close to booking a suite in March but my husband has once again convinced me to save the $! So jealous of a friend who posted comments and pics last week about her family’s stay at the Nick Hotel. Also I would love to see if we could find the answer to one of life’s most perplexing questions..if SpongeBob’s pet is a sea snail.. Why does Gary MEOW!?! Please pick us!

We LOVE the NickHotel and are excited about going back!
When life gives you lemon, go get slimed.
I’m not sure what the Nickelodeon hotel looks like, but I KNOW I would love to surprise my daughter with this for spring break.
Thanks you.
I went to this resort in 2005, before we had children. At the time, we thought that kids were years and years away. What do you know–we conceived our son on that trip. Now we’d like to take him and let him enjoy the pools!! It’s an awesome hotel!
My kids come down to Florida for the summer and so far they’ve experienced the full Disney trip, staying at a resort, going to all the parks, as well as a full Universal/Hard Rock experience, staying at the Hard Rock Hotel and a couple of days of Universal/Islands of Adv. I even went to a Nick Hotel promotion at a local BBQ festival and took a pie in the face for a chance to take my kids here, but no luck. My two little ones have seen the brochures and have both said how excited they would be to go to the Nick Resort. And yes, they always give me an excuse to act like a kid myself.
I would so love to win this because our kids are old enough now to be able to enjoy fun things like this! Plus we have family to visit in Florida so we could do a really nice vacation!
Thanks for the great story! This sounds fabulous! I would love to take my daughter who is turning 2 on March 6th, and my husband who shall remain ageless whose birthday is 3 days later! The character breakfast sounds like a blast.
We love Nickelondeon Suites and Brian the Entertainment Host! I’ve taken my daughters girl scout troop there as well as my family….never ending fun…great staff members…good food…safe environment! The drive from Tampa Bay is quick, however we feel like we’re thousands of miles away! Would love another weekend getaway with the family…great bonding time with my teen too.
I would love to take my boys to the Nickelodeon hotel. They would love to get slimed by the bucket of slime. This would be a great family trip.

We go down to Kissimmee every year, and we have always wondered what it would be like staying at this hotel. We pass it all the time coming in and out of the park. It looks like a lot of fun.
We struggle a lot and aren’t able to take the boys anywhere for a vacation this year. My younger son LOVES characters of any kind and they have been begging to go to Florida. This would be a much needed time away for our family. My boys are 5 and 7, the perfect ages to appreciate this kind of trip.
With funds being so tight right now, it would be awesome to able to go on vacation with the kids this year. And I love that the hotel has single beds, within their own room for the kids!
What a great family vacation this would be for my family!! My fingers are crossed – Thanks!
I want my daughter (turning 8 in August) to have the slime of her life because she simply loves Nick! We have such a great time enjoying the shows, characters and movies. This would be the perfect birthday gift, everything is on the property!!!
We would love to take our girls to Nickelodeon Suites Resort. They’ve never been and they are the stars of this mama’s life.

Posted and duly tweeted.
My husband has been traveling a lot lately so I’d love to win a relaxing family vacation where we could all get slimed together!
The review of the Nick Hotel is awesome! I will forward it to my fellow mom friends to review! We’d love to have the slime of our life to take a FUN family vacation this year!
There are certain things in life that bridge the generational gap. Nick is one of those things. It was a staple as I was growing up and continues to be one in my kids life where we as a family can enjoy all of the shows, characters and game shows. Nothing would make me happier than to be able to take that family sharing experience to the next level and give us all a vacation to remember.
This would be a great start to planning a fanastic MUCH needed vacation. Thanks for the chance.
My daughter is at the perfect age to enjoy everything about the Nick Hotel. And a family vacation is exactly what we all need right now. Sounds like the Nick Hotel has what the parents and kids need

My son and I watch and play BrainSurge on Nickelodeon together every day and every single time we watch it he talks about how much he’d love to get slimed.
I’m working on making a good slime to put in a bucket over his door tomorrow so when we wakes up in the morning and comes out to get his breakfast, his (weird) wish will finally come true.

I would love to have a get away that we can just focus on family.
I’d like to take my 10 and 4 year old granddaughters. I took the oldest to Orlando when she was 4 and would like to take the little one now.

I want to have the slime of my life with a FREE 2-night stay at @NickHotel on @TravelMamas http://bit.ly/dfvn7h
i think i deserve the slime of my life because i really think my family could use a vacation. my husband spent more than half of last year unemployed, we moved halfway across the country for a new job, and we are finally closing on the sale of our house after a year on the market and falling very close to rock bottom and foreclosure. i think we could all use some slime right now.
I would like to have the “slime” of my life at the Nickelodeon Suites Resort because my son and daughter would be so excited about this! We have never been to Orlando
My kids would love to go there.
My son, age 6, loves Nickelodeon! This would be a great “surprise” trip for him!
My husband is busy working LONG hours the next few months. My son’s birthday is on 3/4 and we are not having a party this year. He would love to go to this resort!
My son LOVES Nickoledeon, Nick Jr., Nick at night. Nick, Nick, Nick. He would go crazy to stay in a suite with the Nick characters all over the wall and attend Nick character meets.
We would love to win so that we can experience something other than Disney when we go to Orlando!
